Week 57: Let The Sun Shine In! - March 16, 2019

Baptismal Font in the Salt Lake Temple

Hello! This week has just kind of been another one of those weeks, so it's not to big of an update. For starters, it's not snowing or raining or anything! Yaaaaa! I'm so happy that I don't have to deal with that right now, especially since I haven't gone shopping yet. In other news, we are able to go to the temple on Tuesdays and Wednesdays when we don't have a service project. That's pretty neat since it would be nice to do more temple work. The only problem is that those days are mutual days, meaning the baptistery is extremely packed, having about a 1-2 hour wait. So, my companion and I just did some other things there in the temple and then went back to zone. That's pretty much it for now. Remember to do some temple work, since that's the only way the people on the other side of the Veil can receive their ordinances, so they're depending on you.  Have a great week!!
Till then,
Elder Wright

Week 56: Rain, Rain, and Stupid Snow! - March 9, 2019

Hey family and friends! Lately it's been raining a ton around here, which has been fun to deal with! I love it when it rains because, well, living in a desert does that to you. However, yesterday it was raining a little bit, but then it started snowing! ARGH! Oh well, I'm glad that that's all I really have to deal with. When the weather is like this, I'd rather deal with that than some of the other issues I've dealt with in the past while being here. Other than that, not much is going on here. My companion is doing well, I'm making sure to stay on top of my scripture study, and I'm doing well on zone work. What more could I ask for? Anyways, hope you all have an amazing week and remember to find ways to have the spirit with you.
Till then,
Elder Wright

Other things Elder Wright told us when we chatted:
Right now he is working on populating the “Places” field in FamilySearch. (I’m not sure what that means, but maybe some of you computer people understand.)

They recently had apartment inspections and he and his companion were awarded Chick Fil A gift cards because their apartment was so clean.

He said overall he doesn’t miss being a District Leader, but that he enjoyed the opportunity and hopes he has more opportunites like that in the future.

Week 55: Dipping Back Into DIP - March 2, 2019

One of Mom's friends was visiting for RootsTech and tracked Elder Wright down at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. She wasn't able to see him directly and get a picture, but one of the sweet Senior Sister missionaries took her phone and got this picture to send to me. What a great surprise!
Hello everyone! So, I do actually have a few things to mention. First of all, I'M FINALLY A TRAINER!!!! I've been waiting for this opportunity for a long time now and I'm so happy that I'm able to do this. His name is Elder Mitchell, and he's a really great young elder! As for other news, I'm no longer a district leader and I'm no longer in Library Services. I'm now back in DIP (Digital Imaging Processing), but I'm having a great time with the elders in my district. It is a bit odd not being district leader again, but in all I'm so glad for how things have been working out for me lately. I hope you all know that when we strive to do our best, the Lord will bless us, even if it may be different than how we might originally expect. Have an amazing week!
Till then,
Elder Wright

Elder Wright served in DIP back in April of last year. For more information about DIP, you can check out the April 9 and May 6, 2018 posts on his blog (ElderNickWrightServes.blogspot.com). He also moved to a new apartment and is excited because it's a 2-man apartment so he doesn't have to share as much ;-). He participated in RootsTech, but only helping by returning computers from the convention center back to the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. We asked if he was starting to get "trunky" (missionary word that means "anxious to get back home".) He said he isn't because when he starts feeling like that time drags by slowly and he gets distracted from the work he's doing. He like to stay focused. And the biggest news-he got to have a video chat with us at home and we were even able to include Priscilla at BYU. Technology is such an amazing blessing! Elder Wright's new Pday is Saturday and I know he would love to hear from any of you. Thanks!

Elder Wright with a former companion, Elder Petersen. Elder Petersen has completed his mission and was heading home!

Week 54: Happy Late Valentines Day - February 20, 2019

Elder Wright at the mission’s Talent Show and Pie Social

Hello people! Okay, so there isn't too much to talk about this time, since nothing really big has come up, other than the whole "missionaries can now call, video chat, text, etc." thing. We do have transfers coming up on Tuesday, so if I don't email on Wednesday, you'll understand. Also, Rootstech (the big genealogy convention) is coming in next week, and we'll be open till 11 pm on Monday and Tuesday. Yay. Honestly, I doubt people will be here that late, but whatever. Other than that, I've got nothing. I did have a good Valentines Day, so that was great. I hope all of you are doing well and that you all have a great week!
Till then,
Elder Wright
A couple of other things his dad and I learned from his emails and phone calls to us:
His mission had a Talent Show and pie last Monday night on Presidents Day. He didn’t perform, but he enjoyed seeing the other missionaries performances and of course, the pie.
“I had to give an elder in district a blessing Monday night. He has some bowel issues, and apparently they recently got bad enough that he might have to go in for surgery so I gave him a blessing to help him out.”

Week 53: Time Flying By - February 14, 2019

No pictures again, but wonderful happy screenshots from the videos he sent us!

Hello friends & family! So, one thing that I would really like to talk about is that I've been out here for a year! It's really strange thinking that I've been out in Utah for a year, since it all just seems to be flying by. I had a pretty rough start, but I eventually got my footing, and now I'm doing fantastic out here! I've really enjoyed the experience of being out here and serving in all the various zones that I've been in, and I hope I continue to do so for the rest of my mission. Have an awesome week and remember to always find ways that you can serve one another!
Till next week,
Elder Wright

Mom was excited to see that he had put the hearts I had sent him for Valentines Day up on his wall above his desk!

Week 52: Weather Stinks! - February 5, 2019

Elder Wright didn't send any pictures this week, but he sent a couple of funny videos. I wish I knew how to post them here! Anyway, I did manage to get this screenshot.

Hello friends and family! If you are not currently living in Utah, here is the weather forecast for today: SNOW TILL ABOUT 6 PM!!! WHY IS THIS A THING!?!?! Anyways, besides that annoying piece of my life, things have been going pretty well for me lately. It's been great having two districts in my zone, meaning we get twice the work done and we get to have every other Saturday off. The elders in my district have been great, and in all everything is going fairly well. I wish I had more to to say about what's going on here, but I can't really think of anything else. Hope you guys are having a better time than I am with your weather. Have an awesome week!
Till Then,
Elder Wright

Elder Wright also told his dad and me:
"I do think that it (the snow) looks nice and I don't mind it after it's fallen, it's just when it's falling that it gets in my way. If it's just there, it's not too bad, but I don't like the feel of it blowing in my face, not to mention it's just a reminder about how cold it is outside. I guess that's what I hate more: the cold, not the snow itself, although that does bother me as well a small bit."

"Things are going well in my new apartment. My entire district is just the four of us, so that means I don't have to do check-ins anymore since we all live in the same apartment. "

Week 51: Part 2: Transfer Conference News - January 30, 2019

Hey all! Just to start things off, my p-day is now Wednesday, so expect to see my emails during that time. Anyways, you're all probably wondering what all changed because of transfers, right? Well, I'm happy to say that I'm still in Library Services with Elder Luckau! We now have two districts there, so that will mean that I will only have to serve every other Saturday night rather than two Saturdays and then one Saturday off, then repeating the cycle. Their are some other minor changes, but the ones I discussed are the major ones. Hope you all have a great week!
Till then,
Elder Wright
A little bit more that he told his mom:

"We moved apartments. We're now on the 3rd floor and our apartment smells like a hotel room. The other two elders in our apartment are Elders Jensen and Gatlin. Elder Jensen was in my apartment last transfer, so it's great having him there again. Elder Gatlin is a great guy that lived in the apartment across the hall from us last transfer, and I'm glad to have him in my district because when he first got here I wanted to train him but I didn't get to. Now I get to be his second district leader."
