Week 58: Pizza & Monte Ne - March 23, 2019

Elder Wright continues to work on putting location information into FamilySearch. He apparently enjoys learning about the different areas!
Hey there! So, this week has been fairly chill lately in terms of stuff happening. The only things that were really note worthy (other than going to the temple a couple of times this week) are the things that are in the title. On Monday after district meeting, My companion, a couple of other missionaries, and I each ordered a pizza and ate them while playing games! It was a really fun experience and I'm glad I got to be a part of it! As for the other half of the title, that is something that I discovered while working at zone. While researching about Arkansas, I had to research about a resort that was located where Beaver Lake currently resides. This resort, known as Monte Ne, was a resort made by William Harvey, a guy that you might recognize from history. Both Harvey and Monte Ne have an extensive and hilarious history that I would be able to give justice to on here, so I would suggest reading the Wikipedia article. Let's just say, if you enjoy at laughing at others weird failures, you get a kick out of this. Anyway, things are pretty much the same up here. Transfers are coming up this Tuesday, so don't be surprised if I end up emailing at a different time than usual. Have a great week, and remember the importance of temple work!!
Till then,
Elder Wright

Here are some other things Elder Wright told Priscilla when they chatted:
*He talked about Monte Ne, Arkansas and William Henry who helped establish the silver standard, build a resort and amphitheater in the middle of nowhere, and wanted to build something called "The Pyramid". Monte Ne continued to be sold off and is now called Beaver Lake.
*His District Leader Elder Butters and he want to kickstart their own city
*They formed a "Dominos Squad (it's a Star Wars Clone Wars reference) by having everyone buy their own pizza between his companionship and another trio companionship

Week 57: Let The Sun Shine In! - March 16, 2019

Baptismal Font in the Salt Lake Temple

Hello! This week has just kind of been another one of those weeks, so it's not to big of an update. For starters, it's not snowing or raining or anything! Yaaaaa! I'm so happy that I don't have to deal with that right now, especially since I haven't gone shopping yet. In other news, we are able to go to the temple on Tuesdays and Wednesdays when we don't have a service project. That's pretty neat since it would be nice to do more temple work. The only problem is that those days are mutual days, meaning the baptistery is extremely packed, having about a 1-2 hour wait. So, my companion and I just did some other things there in the temple and then went back to zone. That's pretty much it for now. Remember to do some temple work, since that's the only way the people on the other side of the Veil can receive their ordinances, so they're depending on you.  Have a great week!!
Till then,
Elder Wright

Week 56: Rain, Rain, and Stupid Snow! - March 9, 2019

Hey family and friends! Lately it's been raining a ton around here, which has been fun to deal with! I love it when it rains because, well, living in a desert does that to you. However, yesterday it was raining a little bit, but then it started snowing! ARGH! Oh well, I'm glad that that's all I really have to deal with. When the weather is like this, I'd rather deal with that than some of the other issues I've dealt with in the past while being here. Other than that, not much is going on here. My companion is doing well, I'm making sure to stay on top of my scripture study, and I'm doing well on zone work. What more could I ask for? Anyways, hope you all have an amazing week and remember to find ways to have the spirit with you.
Till then,
Elder Wright

Other things Elder Wright told us when we chatted:
Right now he is working on populating the “Places” field in FamilySearch. (I’m not sure what that means, but maybe some of you computer people understand.)

They recently had apartment inspections and he and his companion were awarded Chick Fil A gift cards because their apartment was so clean.

He said overall he doesn’t miss being a District Leader, but that he enjoyed the opportunity and hopes he has more opportunites like that in the future.

Week 55: Dipping Back Into DIP - March 2, 2019

One of Mom's friends was visiting for RootsTech and tracked Elder Wright down at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. She wasn't able to see him directly and get a picture, but one of the sweet Senior Sister missionaries took her phone and got this picture to send to me. What a great surprise!
Hello everyone! So, I do actually have a few things to mention. First of all, I'M FINALLY A TRAINER!!!! I've been waiting for this opportunity for a long time now and I'm so happy that I'm able to do this. His name is Elder Mitchell, and he's a really great young elder! As for other news, I'm no longer a district leader and I'm no longer in Library Services. I'm now back in DIP (Digital Imaging Processing), but I'm having a great time with the elders in my district. It is a bit odd not being district leader again, but in all I'm so glad for how things have been working out for me lately. I hope you all know that when we strive to do our best, the Lord will bless us, even if it may be different than how we might originally expect. Have an amazing week!
Till then,
Elder Wright

Elder Wright served in DIP back in April of last year. For more information about DIP, you can check out the April 9 and May 6, 2018 posts on his blog (ElderNickWrightServes.blogspot.com). He also moved to a new apartment and is excited because it's a 2-man apartment so he doesn't have to share as much ;-). He participated in RootsTech, but only helping by returning computers from the convention center back to the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. We asked if he was starting to get "trunky" (missionary word that means "anxious to get back home".) He said he isn't because when he starts feeling like that time drags by slowly and he gets distracted from the work he's doing. He like to stay focused. And the biggest news-he got to have a video chat with us at home and we were even able to include Priscilla at BYU. Technology is such an amazing blessing! Elder Wright's new Pday is Saturday and I know he would love to hear from any of you. Thanks!

And some pictures from our video chat!
